Dear Friends, I grew up on a ranch in the San Fernando Valley in California; earned a Bachelor of Foreign Service degree from USC; and, I was commissioned as a 2nd Lt, Signal Corps, in the US Army. During 30 years service I rose through the ranks to colonel. I have been stationed in Germany twice (32nd Sig Bn 1959-62, and USAREUR 1977-80); Stillwater, Oklahoma (Oklahoma State University ROTC); two tours in Vietnam (525 MI Group 1968-9 and 1972-3); one tour in Washington DC (DIA 1969-72); three tours in Hawaii (PACOM 1974-6; WESTCOM 1983-6; and IPAC 1986-9); and one tour in Belgium (SHAPE 1980-3). I transferred to Military Intelligence in 1966 and have traveled much of Western Europe and the Far East in my duties. I am a Vietnamese linguist and was designated a Foreign Area Specialist in Southeast Asia. I started teaching college as an adjunct during my final tour in the Army. Having retired in Hawaii, I first worked as a planner for Hawaii State Civil Defense, and then as an Instructor in International Relations at Hawaii Pacific University. My family moved to Centralia in 1991 where I was hired as a Professor of Political Science and History in 1992. I became Dean of Social Sciences in 2000, a position I still hold. Since moving to Centralia, I have been active in supporting youth sports (including five years as JV and Varsity Coach of the Boys Soccer Team at Centralia High School); my church, St. Mary's Catholic Church, Centralia; Republican political campaigns (and six years as Chairman of the Lewis County Republican Central Committee); and Lewis County Government Advisory Committees (Solid Waste Advisory Committee Chairman for eight years, Natural Resource Advisory Committee Chairman for 2 years, Citizen Advisory Committee on GMA Chairman to the County Planning Commission). I was recently appointed by the Board of County Commissioners as Chairman of the Agriculture Technical Advisory Committee to the County Planning Commission. The latter committee is charged with recommending changes to the County Growth Management Plan on Agriculture Resource Lands of Commercial Significance, declared to be "invalid" by the GMA Western Hearing Board. My training, experience, and activism in Lewis County have made me keenly aware of the problems this county faces. As an intelligence analyst I know how to study issues and find solutions. My extensive service in Joint Military Headquarters has honed my skills to find consensus. My experience with the Republican Party has provided me with many contacts among the movers and shakers in Washington State Government who can get things done. I want to use this experience to help make Lewis County a better place to live and work.
