Click on the map to enlarge The southwest Washington region includes Lewis, Clark, Pacific, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum and Skamania counties. These counties are highlighted in brighter yellow on the map. While there is not a natural border to the north of the region the Pacific Ocean forms the western border and the Columbia River forms the southern border. The Cascade Mountains generally mark the eastern border. The map on this page is small to fit it on the page, click on the map to see it in a larger format. ![]() The region has both Mount Rainier National Park, Mount Saint Helens National Monument along with three wildlife refuges, Willapa, Ridgefield and Julia Butler Hansen. There are also three wilderness areas, Goat Rocks, Trapper Creek and Indian Heaven and many National Forests. Down on the Columbia River, and just off the map to the south, is the Fort Vancouver National Historical site. As you can see on the map there are many rivers in the region, such as the Chehalis, Willapa, Cowlitz, Shookumchuck and the mighty Columbia, and countless creeks and streams and as you might expect both saltwater and freshwater fishing are popular.
